Default Ireland out of RWC

Ireland's disappointing World Cup ended with them failing to get out of the pool stages for the first time.

Eddie O'Sullivan's men needed to score four tries and beat Argentina by eight points to get through but they fell to a 15-point defeat at Parc des Princes.

Lucas Borges and Horacio Agulla scored tries for the Pumas in the first half.

Brian O'Driscoll got over for an Irish touchdown with Geordan Murphy briefly raising Irish hopes with a try early in the second half.

Question Proud Of The Pumas Our Great Team

Gentlemen and some ladies as well, as an Argentine I am extremely proud of what our Pumas had done in France up to now. In spite of all predictions, they had beaten France in their own field of Parc des Princes, and all the other teams which they had played since the start of the World Cup, including Ireland last Sunday, team that lots of Argentines with Irish ancestry admires, but obviously first and foremost is right or wrong our team “Los Pumas”. They are showing to their fellow countrymen, an example of humbleness, attitude, strength, unity and not a bit of arrogance, like the one of the French coach, or some of the Wallabies, you can reach victory without loosing your calmness, this is for the Australian coach. The Pumas deserve the respect of all our country and from all the rugby fans throughout the world, starting with Agustin Pichot, Felipe Contempomi, Juan M. Hernandez, Corleto and the rest of such wonderful team. If they win the world cup, which is quite possible, would be the natural reward for all their efforts as one of the best teams during the whole championship. I want very much now a victory of our Pumas over Scotland this Sunday, God bless our boys, and they are for all us real heroes. They had proved that our rugby is in its pinnacle, and they never lost their humbleness, they are an example to be followed by all Argentines, a country that had suffered a lot in the last years. I am looking forward for a possible match between our Pumas and England, you have two great players Jonny Wilkinson and Andrew Farrell, will be a very interesting contest. Our players are in high spirit and moral, they will do their best to bring us home for the first time in our history the Rugby WC, and I believe that they have a great chance to be the winners, they had demonstrated lots of merit, nobody in Europe, New Zealand, Australia or South Africa believed before that they were capable of so much, bravo Pumas.
