NH Rugby in RWC
My observations so far in RWC 2007
The NH teams have struggled for form so far in this RWC.
If you look at the games they have play so far, France played a dismal game vs Argentina, Italy didnt want anything to do with the ABs, Eng were mediocre against USA, Wales the same against Canada, Scotland did well against an amatuer team, Ireland managed a win against a small rugby nation Namibia.
In my view, the minnows of the RWC have played better, but its the NH teams that really have slipped back. There seems to be a 3 tier in this competition with the Trinations teams on top with Argentina just below, then the mid tier of France, Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, and Italy. I probably could put Samoa in there as well, as they might beat England next week.
And the minnows below.
Why is this happening?
My thoughts, the Trinations teams are benefitting from the expanded Super 14 series, where the players are playing expansive rugby. This fast free flowing style requires alot of passing catching & more running. This has flowed on to the 3 international sides as a result. Defensively, more emphasis is put on less men in the ruck and a defensive line streching across the field.
The teams are fitter than ever before and this year the 3 teams have stepped it up even more.
