Jake White is set to step down as South Africa's national rugby coach if the Springboks triumph in this Saturday's World Cup final against England.

In an interview with The Star newspaper, White said the title of world champions had been his ultimate ambition ever since he took over three years ago and he was cool on the idea of being moved upstairs after the tournament.

"What can I say? When I took over as coach, I said that I really wanted to win the World Cup," he said.

"That was part of my first speech to the guys in 2004 when I got the job. If this group wins, it is the most I can achieve."

Jake has proved himself to be the best rugby manager on the planet, in 2003 South Africa were knocked out of the world cup in the quarters and finished bottom of the tri nations for a second season in a row. However since he has taken over in 2004 immediately they won the tri nations and have become a force to be reckoned with once again, they thoroughly deserve to be champions.

If Jake's Sprinboks win on sunday he should leave, rather than risk tarnishing his excellent reputation apparently he is interested in taking over the England job at some point.

After what I watched last Saturday, I am convinced more and more that our Pumas must start playing in other championships so they can obtain more familiarity with international competitions. At least we did not loose like England in the first march with the South Africans in such unjustifiable way, but nobody is perfect and you have the chance now to smash them, this is what we would like to see after the shameful way that they had behaved last Saturday, with the New Zealander referee who had only eyes for the Pumas mistakes and he did not see the rudness the lack of fair play of many of the Boks including their star Habana. I would like to remind you that most of our players come from rugby amateur not professional, with the exception of those who I mentioned many times, that makes a difference. Since the beginning of the match, when they starting to sing our National Anthem, I noticed that most of our players were extremely nervous and tense, this was something that operated against our Pumas diminishing their chances. Those who had played much better were the ones who are playing in Europe in these days. In spite of my lack of personal experience with rugby (my brothers had played like Felipe Contempomi at the Cardinal Newman, Irish Christian brothers), I love it and I hope that they will be able to play other international tournaments in the future, depending mainly in the rest of the nations to accept them in those cups. Our Pumas had lost this match, but we are still extremely proud of them, they are our heroes and this defeat with such powerful rival will not diminish what they had done during the World Cup. God bless them, and I believe confidently that this cup will help us to have much more rugby players in our country, and new Pumas will give us a victory in the near future, perhaps some of the same team that had played this evening. Thanks to the huge wage of Irish, English and Scots immigrants rugby started being played 150 years ago in Argentina. So thanks again to all journalists like Mike and Brendan of the Daily Telegraph and many English rugby fans (like you Matt) for their fairness and for all your kind words, I wish you a great victory over the Springboks, thanks to God you will not have the same partial New Zealander referee that we had last Saturday.

With the greatest respect Elisabeth this was a thread solely based on the South African manager Jake White leaving his post and which side he could possibly coach next. Its ashame that Argentina are out but it was last weekend and thats the way it is, im not a fan of blaming the referee for losses the fact is the Argentinean players were needlessly taking cheap shots at the Boks players towards the end and Contempomi was lucky not to be red carded to his elbow.


Also im not a fan of England, its Scotland

Sorry Matt, but I watched the game twice and with some British friends who used to play rugby, I don't want to discuss about the referee's behaviour, he had eyes only for the Pumas, but not a single warning for any Bok, which play wonderfully but they behaved in an awful way. I do not share what you are saying about Felipe, I know quite well him and his family, he is a wonderful man and a future doctor who wants to work with needy children in Africa or here in South America, and he always behaves in the field and off it as gentleman. He had been provoked by Habana and others almost all the time, when he reacted was because he had reached his limit, one South African hit him strongly in his back, we watched that and we had spoken with his mother afterwards and she told us the same. In "La Nacion" from Buenos Aires he described the incident very carefully and with lots of details, incident that had been utterly ignored by the referee, who according with a French Catholic newspaper "La Croix" was extremely partial. Please apologize me I did not want to be rude about your Scottish nationality, I am aware that many Scots want independence of England, which is quite understandable. My second great grand father Thomas Bruce Leigthon was born in Scotland and one of my other great grand mothers, Ann Marie Douglas Graham was Scot from top to bottom. I love Scotland and the Scots, especially Sean Lamont, but I am too old for him (some eight years I believe, perhaps one of my nieces will be suitable for him, just a joke, but who knows, see you if possible this spring in Scotland, where as I said our whole family will stay for two weeks

Theres rumours if jake white doesnt stay with the boks that he will definetley be a target for wales.

We are playing them next month at the millenium stadium a game we could defintley do without.Dont be surprised if the wru big wigs hold talks with him then
