The Blues started what looked to be a promising season with a first-up win against the Force in Perth, followed by a bonus-point loss to the Bulls, then they hit back with a win against the Stormers.
First home game back in 2009 and the Blues faced an unbeaten Sharks team. After 80 minutes, the Sharks still remained unbeaten, and the Blues’ record was played 4, won 2, lost 2.
They then smashed the Cheetahs at North Harbour Stadium, and with that things seemed on track. Unfortunately next up were an in-form Chiefs side, who had only narrowly lost to Crusaders in Week One and had won some vital points in other losses.
Thing started badly for Blues, and by the end of the match, there was almost a 30-point margin between the teams in a 63-34 thrashing. The only positive was that the Blues scored five tries in the loss, securing them another vital bonus point.
Week Six saw the Blues returning to Eden Park, to take on the Waratahs from New South Wales, who had never won a Super Rugby match in Auckland.
