These Cheetahs are just clawless
Played five, lost five. That’s the miserable reality for the Cheetahs in the 2009 Super 14, as they stay rooted to last place on the log.
They suffered their fifth consecutive loss in the competition when they were taught a rugby lesson at the hands of the Blues who pummelled them 46-12 in North Harbour over the weekend.
“It was very disappointing we got a good hiding against the Blues,” said Cheetahs stand-in skipper Hendro Scholtz.
Although the Cheetahs made a fist of it at the set-pieces – the scrums and line-outs – they simply couldn’t handle the Blues’ ferocity on attack.
That said their defence was shambolic and there is no excuse for a professional rugby side to drop off first time tackles like they did.
Scholtz rued the Cheetah’s inability to fight for 80 minutes and also cursed their missed chances.
On three occasions, the Cheetahs lost the ball over the try line.
“I don’t know why it takes us 75 minutes to get into the game and again we didn’t use our chances, which was the same as in the Hurricanes match.”
The Cheetahs face the Highlanders in Dunedin this Saturday.
