The Stormers thrashed the Lions 56-18 in the Super 14 on Saturday to banish their recent poor form.
After watching his side slump to defeat in three of the opening four rounds, Stormers coach Rassie Erasmus desperately needed a resounding victory before embarking on a five-week tour of Australia and New Zealand.
The Stormers moved up to seventh place with 12 points, six more than the next-to-last Lions.
The Stormers first put the 32,000 Newlands home fans through the agony of conceding two soft tries early on. Fullback Louis Ludik and wing Henno Mentz both scored tries for the Lions to lead 12-3 and make the Stormers pay for mistakes.
"I was shocked after those first few tries," Erasmus said. "Credit to the players. We were feeling the heat and conceded two soft tries. What pulls you through is self belief."
