Default Stormers beat ACT 20-10 to go fourth

The Stormers survived a fierce second half to defeat the ACT Brumbies 20-10 Saturday and move to fourth in the Super 14 league.

In the first half the Stormers raced to a 20-0 lead over a team which had defeated them eight times in 10 previous encounters.

The Brumbies started the match by tightly holding onto possession and it looked as if the Stormers would have to convert the tiniest of chances into points to win the match. But the Stormers turned a lineout 15 meters inside ACT territory into a sweeping attack which saw center Gcobani Bobo slice through the defense to set his captain Jean de Villiers free for a converted try.

From the restart, De Villiers plucked the ball from the air in the face of the advancing Brumbies backs. When De Villiers was tackled deep inside the Brumbies' 22-meter area, he tried to feed Bobo inside him.

Bobo was pushed from an offside position early by Brumbies' flyhalf Christian Lealiifano, and referee Steve Walsh awarded a penalty try.
