They rolled out a rugby ball at Buck Shaw Stadium on Sunday afternoon. And more than 10,000 people showed up to watch.
"The crowd was fantastic," Irish team captain Rory Best said of the audience for Ireland's 27-10 victory over the U.S. national team.
"It's a spectacle to walk onto the pitch and see the stands completely full," Best said. "And as an Irish, it was great to have so many Irish out to support us."
To be sure, it wasn't like 49,000 at Lansdowne Stadium in Dublin. But the packed house for the international match wasn't just a testament to the large local Irish population. It also illustrated the Bay Area's status as a hotbed of rugby.
