Italy coach Nick Mallett said Tuesday that he is looking forward to Craig Gower bringing out the best in Italy's back line during the summer tour to Australia and New Zealand.
Mallett called up the ex-Australia rugby league international for the first time for matches against Australia on June 13 and 20 and New Zealand on June 27.
Sydney-born Gower qualifies for Italy by virtue of an Italian grandfather.
"The choice of Craig Gower made a lot of sense," Mallett said. "Craig is a very physical player, weighing 92 kilograms (202 pounds) and is an excellent tackler.
"He loves to run the ball, attack the line and get the team playing. I've no doubt about the fact that with his playmaking he can get the back line moving."
