Default Cronk on standby for Thurston

MELBOURNE halfback Cooper Cronk says he is confident and prepared to play in the Centenary Test if Australian halfback Johnathan Thurston is ruled out with an ankle injury.

Cronk has been placed on standby after Thurston rolled his ankle at training but he is unlikely to get a proper training session with the Kangaroos.

But Cronk says he will slot comfortably into the Australian side if needed as he led them to last year's 58-0 thumping of the Kiwis and there is already six of his Storm team mates in the national side.

Australian officials will give Thurston until an hour before kick off to prove his fitness.
