The women's rugby team won the Midwest regional title in the fall and earned a ticket to the national playoffs this April.
But after doing some calculating, the team's celebration was short lived.
The team has been trying to solve the cost of playing for the title since November.
Senior Stephanie Gillespie said between the hotel and transportation in Florida, the trip could end up costing the team around $15,000.
"We are trying to go as cheap as possible," Gillespie said. "At this moment, we have plane tickets there and back, but no hotel or transportation while we are there."
The team will be flying to Orlando, Fla., April 16 to 19, where they will be playing two games as a No. 2 seed.
SRU will be playing a school from the west, which is still unknown because that division hasn't finished the regular season yet.
The women's rugby team is a club sport.
SRU does not give them money for any of their travel or financial needs.
But they are able to requests funds from SGA, the same as most organizations and groups on-campus.
Gillespie said they have put a request in with SGA to receive funding for their hotel and transportation to the field. They are waiting to hear back.
Club President Callie Verrette said the team would be traveling with only 21 members, leaving 15 players behind.
"We can only take so many players to nationals because of not being funded by the school," Verrette said. "It has been really hard coming up with ideas and raising the amount of money needed in order to go."
The team has done a variety of fundraisers, which included a magazine sale, spaghetti dinner, T-shirt sale and bake sale.
So far, the team has raised nearly half of what they will need in order to make this trip to Florida.
The team has also received donations from family members and is seeking to try to gain sponsorships from businesses.
"We sent out 300 letters to businesses asking them for donations," Verrette said. "The only one that was willing to donate was Sheetz."
