My Name is Vake, from Tonga. Im 20 years old, I finished high school in 2008 from Saint Kentigern College in New Zealand. I was offered a scholarship to play rugby for the school while studying. Studying in a new environment had a great and positive effect in my life and I wish to continue to use my talent to further my studies. I play forward as a blind side flangker or lock. I know I have big potential in life to help myself, my parents and my country, but just have not had the opportunities to further my carrier. I’m in search for a better life then hear in Tonga. I greatly believe that I can make a difference in Tonga, but I need the education to carry out my dreams with my talent.

Hi Vake,

Glad to have you here on this growing forum. I can't comment for other countries, but I know that here in Ireland they don't offer scholarships for rugby. However, if you are scouted and join the reserves for Leinster there is a college program you can enroll in to help you study while you're playing, that how Felipe Contepomi became a doctor while playing for Leinster.

Thank you for looking in and for your ideas. Im really looking for anything at the moment that would get me places but still be able to play rugby. Rugby is a passion and I would like to use my talent to get me places.
Getting scouted would be great, but its hard to get scouted out hear in Tonga for overseas teams. I do have videos of my high school games, and I played for a while in Japan for about 6 months. Now Im back in Tonga applying to as many scholarships out there open to take me.

I wish it could be that easy. What are my chances of getting a trail or just at least be seen in action?
I'm not really familiar with how to send videos through this web site but I got it on DVD. They are mostly highlights of my games being edited into one disc. I do have some footage though of my games in Japan aswell, full 80mins. I just need to download or upload it into the comp though.

Create a Youtube Account Vake. Go to YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. You will however need to download the videos to your pc first, and then from your pc to your Youtube account.

You can then link everybody who you approach to those videos. It will make their decision easier too. Good luck.

Vake, where are your parents from? I have an uncle who has close ties to the recruiting of highland rugby (the team in the film FOREVER STRONG, from salt lake city utah). His name is Tevita Supilani Ma'ilei. His son played fb for highland and now plays professional football for the Saints. If Utah is a place of interest for rugby (They have the BYU team here that is ranked, i believe...they take a lot of fijians straight from fiji) try contacting Supi (who is also on the board of the Tongan National Society of Utah). He may want to see some film. If you're still in NZ his bro can take a look at you too. His name is Kau, father of Andrew Mailei of ikale tahi.
