Default BYU Rugby Overcomes Utes

On a cold, wet night Friday, BYU came from behind and then pulled away late, defeating rival Utah 34-10.

The wet conditions had both teams fighting for field position in the first half and struggling to score. After a high tackle penalty, BYU was forced to play a man down. Utah capitalized with a late first-half field goal and went into the half up 10-7.

The Cougars overpowered the Utes in the second half, holding them scoreless and getting into an offensive rhythm scoring 24 points.

"Both teams played well for this stage in the season," BYU coach David Smyth said. "In the end, we probably just wore them down a bit, we were just a little bit more physical."
