Mayerhofler will say his farewells at the EDF Energy Cup match on Saturday when Newcastle take on the Dragons at Kingston Park.
He will return to his native New Zealand next week to explore other interests, having been a firm favourite in the north-east for five years. Injury sadly denies the popular midfield man the chance to sign off in competitive action.
"Mark is a true warrior, an extremely hard man but also a very humble man," said Falcons director of rugby, John Fletcher of the player who made 92 appearances in his five seasons with the club.
