Will history repeat the old conceits? The Lions certainly hope so – and the more religious amongst them will pray so. So far their every hope has been answered en-route to the first Test. If the management could have selected a South African side of their choice from the range of available talent it would not have been far from the Springbok side Pieter de Villiers selected.
The Springboks pack has a formidable look to it but behind the scrum there are cracks where the light of victory might just flood in for the Lions. Ian McGeechan was hoping that the Springboks would go into the Test without a regular goal-kicker and he has been granted his wish.
