Byrne was forced to limp off the pitch 30 minutes into the Wales v Ireland championship decider on Saturday and a subsequent scan has revealed an inflammation of a tendon in his left foot. The 28-year-old is now facing a race against the clock to be fit for the Heineken Cup quarter-final against Munster on Sunday, 12 April at a sold out Thomond Park.
Ospreys coach Sean Holley is optimistic about Byrne’s chances of being back on time for the trip to Limerick:
“Hopefully with some rest and treatment, he can make it for the quarter-final. We won’t know too much until the experts have a good look at that, but it’s clear he won’t be available for this week or the week after.” explained Holley.
