Ligairi’s season over
FLYING Fijians fullback Norman Ligairi has kissed the rest of the rugby season goodbye after sustaining an injury to his ankle.
According to reports out of France where the Nabalebale native plays his club rugby for Brive reports Ligairi will miss the remainder of the season. Ligairi who has played for the national team in both codes and the Pacific Islanders side in their entire tours at either wing or full back, currently plying his trade for French club Brive in the French Top14.
“He has sustained a season ending sprain to his right ankle,” reports his club website.
The injury came during last Saturdays match away at State Francais, a match that Brive eventually won. Ligairi spent some time on the ground after a violent collision with Stade Francais Nicolas Jeanjean.
Eventually medics were able to lift him, and Alexis Palisson replaced him. The injury will come as a serious blow to Brive chances of challenging for the title, as Ligairi is an integral cog in the back line.
The injury rules him out of the Nawaka 7s which is scheduled for later this month.
