League's Witt switches to rugby
Former Manly, Parrammatta and New Zealand Warriors rugby league star Michael Witt has made a switch to rugby union, signing Wednesday with the Otago and New Zealand rugby unions.
Witt, 25, built a career in Australia's National Rugby League as a five-eighth and goalkicker, but recently indicated a desire to switch to the 15-a-side code.
"Michael let it be known he is keen to play rugby in New Zealand so we started exploring possibilities which resulted in him signing for Otago," the New Zealand union's professional rugby manager Neil Sorensen said.
"The NZRU has also contracted him to cover the potential for him to play Super 14 rugby next year."
Witt follows a number of NRL players switching to rugby including, recently, Ryan Cross, Mark Gasnier and Sonny-Bill Williams.
