Bonjour, Gruss Gott, Konichiwa from Canberra.

The rugby season is about to start and I found the forums through a Google search. As my avatar shows, I'm a member of the ACT Veterans Rugby Club in Canberra. The club has around 90 members and we play our regular matches by splitting into two teams. We also have a number of fund-raising matches as a single team playing the veterans teams of the Australian Defence Force, the Royal Military College cadets, the federal Parliamentary XV, HMAS Darwin and the Australian Federal Police teams. We are also combining with a Brisbane veterans team to attend the Vintage Rugby tournament in Cape Town in August.

I'm a latecomer to playing rugby, starting at the age of 42. I had played touch but not full contact before but I followed the game, having been a supporter of the Brumbies since they started in 1996. Playing the game gives one an added appreciation of all its nuances and as I said to some of the Brumbies players doing a recovery session at my local pool, has made me a little more circumspect in 'offering advice' from the grandstand at Brumbies matches.

As my forum name indicates, I'm a fanatical skier in addition to being a rugby tragic. I work as a weekend ski instructor at a resort near Canberra, the long Vets Rugby season means that I don't miss too many games.

I look forward to reading and occasionally contributing to the forum.

Welcome Mr. Gott, it's very interesting to read about ACT and good luck to your Brumbies in the Super 14. I've enjoyed watching Rocky Elsom play and hope the best for him there. If I can will try to watch their match with the Force on Friday (it airs live at 5 a.m. where I reside.)

I like being called 'Mr God', my club nickname is 'Contact' because I went for two seasons without wearing them and as a result was knocking the ball on more often than I should. I've heeded the advice and picked up a stock of disposable contact lenses for this year.

I'm flying over to Perth to see the Force game live. I'm going to the game with a couple of my guests that I taught to parallel ski last year.

Rocky Elsom was a good player for the Brumbies to get. I hope he likes the Canberra lifestyle and is not tempted to go to Melbourne.

BTW, I'm the webmaster for the club's website and we've had a recent revamp. I'd be interested to get some feedback from forum members.
